Despite being one of the businesses significantly impacted by Super Typhoon Yagi and the historic floods, Global Dream Co., Ltd. set aside their own pressing matters to spearhead a meaningful charity program titled “SHARING DIFFICULTIES WITH NORTHERN COMPATRIOTS AFTER SUPER TYPHOON YAGI AND THE FLOODS,” with their first stop being Yen Bai province, a locality heavily affected by landslides and flooding in the aftermath of the severe storm.
Super Typhoon Yagi – a historic storm, the loss of many families.
Typhoon Yagi made landfall in Northern Vietnam on September 7, 2024, and was assessed as the strongest storm to hit mainland Vietnam in the past 70 years. It was the strongest storm globally in 2024 up to that point in terms of wind intensity.
Many localities were paralyzed, notably Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, experiencing prolonged power and water outages. Numerous infrastructure projects, factories, equipment, and residential homes were destroyed. Nationwide statistics estimated the death toll from the storm, floods, and landslides caused by Typhoon Yagi at 323 people. Economic losses were estimated at 3.45 billion USD and are still being tallied.
Although not directly hit by the devastating force of Typhoon Yagi when it made landfall on September 7th, Yen Bai became one of the localities most severely affected by its aftermath. Prolonged heavy rainfall following the storm caused a sudden surge in river water levels, submerging numerous production workshops, residential houses, and sweeping away property. Traffic on many key routes was paralyzed for nearly 10 days, isolating numerous residential areas.
Of particular concern was the critical situation of the Thac Ba Hydropower Dam in Yen Bai, Vietnam’s first hydropower plant. The looming threat of the dam’s collapse put millions of residents in downstream provinces and the entire Red River Delta in a state of emergency, threatening the lives and property of hundreds of thousands of people.
Global Dream: Spreading Golden Hearts.
Understanding the immense difficulties faced by the people of Yen Bai, Global Dream Co., Ltd. swiftly launched a charity activities, demonstrating social responsibility and the noble spirit of “the intact leaf shelters the torn leaf.”
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, representative of Global Dream Co., Ltd., shared: “Witnessing the immense damage suffered by the people of the North after Typhoon Yagi and the floods, especially the precarious situation of the people of Yen Bai, we could not stand idly by. With the spirit of solidarity and mutual support, Global Dream hopes to contribute a small part to help people quickly stabilize their lives and overcome this difficult period.”
During the charity event, the Global Dream delegation presented 200 practical gift packages to households most severely affected by landslides and flooding. Each package included essential necessities, personally handed over to the residents.
The radiant eyes and sincere words of gratitude from the people of Yen Bai greatly motivated the Global Dream charity delegation. Ms. Nguyen Thi Van, a resident whose house was flooded in Yen Binh district, shared emotionally: “My family lost almost everything after the recent flood. Receiving these gifts, we are extremely grateful for the company’s kindness. This is a great encouragement, giving us more strength to overcome these difficulties.”
Initial statistics showed that across the province, 25,200 houses were flooded, 265 houses completely collapsed, and 4,800 hectares of crops in Yen Bai were submerged for extended periods, causing severe damage to the economy and livelihoods of the people, who mainly rely on agriculture. The gifts provided by Global Dream not only held material value but also served as a significant source of spiritual encouragement, helping people alleviate their burdens and have more faith in the future.
The first charity event took place successfully on September 22, 2024, in Yen Bai, receiving enthusiastic support from local authorities and sincere appreciation from the residents.
This is just the initial activity in the series of charity programs “SHARING DIFFICULTIES WITH NORTHERN COMPATRIOTS AFTER TYPHOON YAGI AND THE FLOODS” by Global Dream Co., Ltd. In the near future, the company plans to continue implementing support activities in other localities severely affected by the storm and floods, contributing to the reconstruction and stabilization of life for the people of the North.
